As Govia Thameslink Railway’s Head of ERTMS I am responsible for the introduction of digital signalling on our network. Digital signalling is key to future proofing the railway and creating a sustainable base to grow revenue, alongside delivering even greater safety controls – something that, as a former train driver, I am always passionate about. The technology gives us a real opportunity to have a tangible impact for our customers by making journeys more reliable and reducing signal failures that every year result in thousands of hours of delay.

ERTMS introduction has it’s challenges, but with pragmatism and learning from the past the railway can adopt this system across the UK to deliver huge benefits for all its users.
