Michelle Russell

Head of Workforce Analytics
NSAR

As a senior leader at the National Skills Academy for Rail (NSAR), Michelle heads up the Skills Intelligence Team. Workforce Analytics is at the central to their work in and around strategic workforce planning with the development of the intuitive Skills Intelligence Model (SIM) crucial to understanding future skills demands. Using different scenarios within the modelling allows the team to look at the impact of for example digital tools and solutions on the future workforce skills requirements. From this, skills gap identifications can be addressed through the development of training, recruitment and skill enhancement plans. NSAR supports organisations along this Strategic Workforce planning Journey.

Michelle’s belief in lifelong learning is built on her teaching background where she championed student progress, both academic and personal. As a result, she is passionate about equality of opportunity, demonstrating her commitment to improving this across the rail sector, as a member of the Women in Rail and Rail Association EDI charter working group.

More recently, Michelle has obtained two Master’s level qualifications; an MSc in Transport Economics and an MA in Business.
