Kerry Hourihan

Kerry joined the Department for Transport (DfT) in September 2012. She currently heads up the team responsible for maritime skills, diversity and career promotion but has held a wide range of maritime roles including managing the first London International Shipping Week, introducing and running the Merchant Navy Medal State Award and led the Maritime Directorate’s COVID-19 Communications and Briefing team.

Prior to that Kerry started her career in the civil service over 20 years ago on their graduate scheme and has worked across a range of Government departments in predominantly policy roles. However, with a background in mathematics and education, Kerry has spent many years working in a variety of economic policy roles with a focus on skills and employment at the national, regional and local level, including regional economic policy and cities policy.
