Ruhana Begum has been in the Aviation Decarbonisation team since March 2021. She was the Head of the Strategy team until November 2022, leading on the publication of the Jet Zero Strategy and Jet Zero Consultation, and overseeing the secretariat function for the Jet Zero Council. Since then, Ruhana has been leading the Jet Zero Policy Development team, responsible for further developing some of the key policies within the Jet Zero Strategy including the Zero Emissions Airport Target and developing the Government’s policy on addressing aviation’s non-CO2 impacts.  

Before Ruhana’s role in the Decarbonisation team, she held various roles in the Department for Transport, working on Freeports policy development, leading the Maritime trade negotiations with the US and Japan, EU Exit contingency planning, and Rail Infrastructure planning.

Ruhana has a degree in BSc Environmental Science and a Masters in MSc Environmental Monitoring, Modelling and Management.
