David Janner-Klausner is Cofounder of Commonplace, the leading online engagement platform for place shaping. Since its founding eight years ago, Commonplace has engaged over 4 million people in the UK and launched over 1,500 online public engagements across all sectors and areas of policy impacting local communities. David leads Commonplace’s Customer Success team and is responsible for the effectiveness of Commonplace’s work with its customers. This year Commonplace has won four trade awards for its work on widening public engagement and its effective partnering with public and private sector operators. David has led Commonplaces work with Highways England and the Connecting Leeds transport programme, as well as supporting his team in delivering online engagement on housing, renewables and other topics. 

David’s background is in local development and capacity building. Originally from Israel, he spent a decade developing municipal strategic planning unit in that country’s diverse communities, and led a national development programme for executive mayors. His UK career includes stints at the Local Government Information Unit and Transport 2000 (now the campaign for Better Transport). David holds degrees in geography, economics and architecture.
