David Thomas is a Senior Portfolio Manager in the Industry Partnership for Digital Railway. He is leading the development of the Digital Signalling portfolio, which aims to progressively migrate the GB signalling network to European Train Control System (ETCS) technology at the point of renewal. This will enable a more cost-effective and sustainable replacement of signalling equipment, and provide opportunities for a safer, higher-performing and greener railway.

David previously worked for NR Southern Region Capital Delivery as a Programme Manager on a number of new-technology projects. Prior to that, he was Senior Sponsor for the High Capacity Rail Systems team on the Thameslink Programme, which delivered the world's first Automatic Train Operation (ATO) over ETCS system into operation , through Central London.
