Baudewijn has worked in the Horizon Europe Unit in Welsh Government since before the start of the Horizon 2020 programme in 2014, becoming Head of the Unit in 2018. Before leading the unit through the recent transition, his specialism was North Wales and the Food and Environment Challenge areas of Horizon 2020 - some of the best-performing areas of the programme in Wales. 

Born in the Netherlands and raised near Cardiff, Baudewijn returned to Wales following a degree in languages in Oxford and has worked in the Managing Authority of European funds since 2004, accumulating experience of community initiatives, financial instruments and infrastructure investments as well as research and innovation. He is currently also acting as a Head of Branch in the ERDF Energy team. Synergies between regional investment and competitive funds are a clear interest.
