Kevin is Innovation Lead - Rail in the Land and Maritime Transport Team at Innovate UK and IMechE Midland Region Chair.

Previously he was Head of Delivery at the Birmingham Centre for Rail Research and Education, part of the University of Birmingham from 2018 to 2025. This role included secretariat of the UK Rail Research and Innovation Network (UKRRIN) and delivery of a wide variety of research projects such as the development of HydroFlex, the UK’s first hydrogen powered train. Kevin was an Innovation Specialist within Technical Authority in Network Rail from 2011, responsible for the Strategic University Partnerships and was technical lead for the EU Sustrail (Sustainable Freight Railway) project. He also contributed to the development of the Network Rail technical strategy and delivery plan as part of the wider Rail Technical Strategy. He first joined Network Rail in 2005 in Infrastructure Projects delivering infrastructure enhancements such as the Birmingham Cross City Line extension. Prior to 2005, Kevin worked in the Automotive sector in powertrain design and development and problem resolution roles.
