Network Rail

Mike started his career on the NHS General Management and Finance graduate programme. Since moving over to the railway industry in the 1990’s , he developed a passion for improving the railway service for all customers and freight users, through project and programme leadership.

Working in several regions and functions across the rail industry Mike has worked in partnership with local authorities, train operators, government departments and other agencies to identify, develop and deliver significant improvements to train services, transforming passenger experience through introduction of new rolling stock, station redevelopment and widespread improvements in network accessibility. Growing the railway as catalyst for social mobility and economic prosperity for the communities it serves, is at the heart of Mike’s personal commitment to the industry.

In his current role as Programme Director on the Restoring Your Railway Programme Mike leads a network wide programme to grow rail industry revenue, extend the customer base and to “super-charge “ socio economic transformation reconnecting communities via new lines and stations. The Programme has already reopened the Dartmoor Line between Okehampton and Exeter with passenger numbers significantly above forecast, 3 new stations will open in 2023 and the Northumberland Line between Newcastle and Ashington will open in 2024. A further 20 reconnection projects are currently in development.
