Alan Weston

Head of Transport
Tees Valley Combined Authority

Alan is Head of Transport for Tees Valley Combined Authority and has spent the last 5 years leading the development and delivery of the area’s devolved transport investment programme with a focus on improving transport networks in the area to unlock economic growth opportunities.

Recognising the importance of rail to the Tees Valley Transport network and the regeneration of the area, Alan has overseen more than £150million of devolved transport funding committed to projects to improve the rail network since 2019, and this has leveraged, or is expected to leverage, a similar amount of public sector funding. Major schemes completed, or currently in delivery, include: working with Network Rail to secure over £100m of RNEP funding, and over £33m of devolved funding, to redevelop Darlington Station, which is due to complete later this year; a phased approach to investing over £70m of devolved funding in Middlesbrough Station to create additional capacity and an improved gateway to the town, and; £15m of TVCA transport funding invested at Hartlepool to create capacity for new services.

Having worked in local government for over 25 years in economic development and regeneration roles, Alan brings a wealth of experience about the role of transport as an enabler of growth and how transport investment and regeneration go hand in hand.
