Steve Ormerod

Steve Ormerod is Professor of Ecology at Cardiff University. He has over 40 years' experience as an academic ecologist working mostly on the effects of global change on ecosystem structure, function and services in streams, rivers and lakes.

He has published extensively on river physico-chemistry, and the consequences of change for diatoms, invertebrates, fish and river birds in the UK and overseas.  

Outside Cardiff University, he is heavily involved in the application of ecology to biodiversity conservation and environmental management. Steve chaired the Council of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds - Europe's largest wildlife charity - until Oct 2017, and became Vice President in 2018. He is also Chair of Buglife - Europe's invertebrate NGO and became a Board Member and Deputy Chair of Natural Resources Wales and a member of JNCC in Nov 2018.
