Teifion Maddocks EnvDip

Sustainability and Wellbeing Officer
Swansea University

Teifion Maddocks has dedicated his working life to enhancing the wellbeing of others and protecting the environment for current and future generations. With a degree in environmental risk management, Teifion started his career as an environment, health and safety professional at global giant General Electric.

Having successfully implemented Health Safety and Environmental culture change initiatives and achieved international standard for environmental management ISO14001 at GE, he felt the ‘Hiraeth’, a calling for home. He now lives near the beautiful coast of Swansea Bay with his wife and two children.

Teifion continued his passion for safeguarding the environment with a move to Tata Steel. Working together with regulators, Port Talbot community and steel works, he sought ways to reduce local pollution and secured environmental approvals for the £150m rebuilding of a blast furnace in 2015.

Teifion has now turned his attention to ensuring the sustainability and wellbeing of Swansea University. Working with the sustainability team, Teifion founded the award-winning SWell engagement app, which encourages and rewards the University community to taking steps towards improving wellbeing and environmental sustainability. Teifion leads work on Sustainable and ethical procurement, the Welsh Government Corporate Health Standard programme and the University’s climate emergency plans.
