Michael has an extensive practice covering all aspects of the development process (including compulsory purchase) focusing on larger scale projects.

He has promoted major highways infrastructure projects under the DCO regime in Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth (The Gull Wing Bridge and the Herring Bridge) and in Norwich (the Norwich Northern Distributor Road). All three projects were consented and are now constructed.

Michael acted for host authorities in energy DCOs at Sizewell C nuclear power station, East Anglia One North, East Anglia Two, Five Estuaries, and North Falls offshore windfarms, Sunnica solar farm, and Bramford to Twinstead Grid reinforcement, and in transport DCOs at Lower Thames Crossing and Gatwick Northern Runway. He is currently engaged in the Sea Link DCO examination and in the forthcoming Norwich to Tilbury Reinforcement DCO.

Michael has also promoted a large number of development plans and is currently promoting plans in Oxfordshire and on the Isle of Wight.

Michael acts for developers, landowners, local planning authorities, and local highway authorities.

Michael is consistently ranked as a leading planning silk in the main legal directories and in Planning Magazine’s annual survey.

Michael was the General Editor of ‘Cornerstone on the Planning Court’, 2nd edition (2021).
